GHOST ACOUSTICS

Ghost Acoustics is a division of sE Electronics International. sE Electronics International has gained a reputation over the last 5 years for building exceptionally high quality microphone products, manufactured in their state of the art facility in Shanghai.

The sE Electronics brand comprises only microphone related products, and the new GHOST ACOUSTICS brand has been created for acoustic treatment products. With the same philosophy of attention to detail, original in house (and not OEM) design, and producing exceptional quality products for only mid-market prices, the new acoustic treatment range addresses project studio, rehearsal, pro’ and consumer markets with its innovative, simple and highly effective designs.
Ghost Construction

The Ghost Acoustics Range in summary -

Fire retardant – all Ghost products are manufactured using only Class A Fire retardant products (Steel, Aluminium, Glass fibre and fire retardant Polyester fabric)
Frequency – full range absorption for all panels down to 100Hz, much more efficient than foam tiles
Flexible – Ghost products do not require permanent fixing with glue (like foam based products). As such they are both portable, and can be used for multiple applications.
Finish – Ghost panels are very durable and look great (foam products fade and oxidise over time and have to be replaced as they begin to crumble and form dust).

The 'Block'

The ‘Block’ is the most flexible unit in the Ghost range, and the basic starting point for any Ghost Acoustic system.

It combines easy to install wall treatment with the facility to be used as a freestanding Gobo (using the ‘Gobo stand’). Packed with high density (100Kg per cubic metre) Glass Fibre and layers of Aluminium foil, and finished in a brushed Aluminium frame with fire retardant polyester fabric, it is a highly effective full frequency absorber (as are all Ghost products).

Test data from the Institute of Acoustics (at Tongji University, China’s leading authority on acoustic studies) shows highly effective (30-44%) removal of all audible frequencies down to 200Hz, and around 20% even down to 125 Hz with standard wall mounting.

The ‘Block’ uses Ghost’s proprietary ‘Easy Mount’ system for wall fixing. Each trap ships with a lightweight metal frame which screws into the wall.

The 'Gobo Stand'

Ghost 'Gobo Stand' - this is a 12Kg, solid steel bass plate, into which 6 separate 2 foot (600mm) rods can be screwed. It provides an extremely stable base for using the Ghost 'Block' products as Gobos for isolation, acoustic screens for separation, or where flexibility is needed in room treatment, for example to temporarily treat (acoustically obscure) a room window while mixing or tracking which is causing unwanted reflections.

It's simple, but highly effective design, lends a degree of flexibility to Ghost room treatments that no other off the shelf Acoustic brand can match. It allows the 'Block' product to be used in a variety of environments, (not just recording studios), from live performance in orchestral context, to temporary treatment of rehearsal spaces for gigging bands.

Being modular, walls of varying heights can be erected, for simple guitar cab gobos, full drum kit surrounds (bases have angled cutaways to allow for 'curved' walled areas to be constructed), or even a full vocal wall up to 6 feet (1800mm) high.

The beauty of it is that all this can be done with the SAME 'Block' product which is mounted on your studio walls for room treatment when mixing! You simply remove the 'Blocks' from their 'Easy Mount' frames, and slide them onto the 'Gobo Stand' for tracking etc. Very quick, very easy and an all in one solution which means you don't have to spend money twice on less effective foam systems which have to be permanently wall mounted, or bought as a separate freestanding product.

The 'Big Block'

The ‘Big-Block’ is a larger version of the block, meant for wall mounting only. It’s rectangular shape means it can be mounted either vertically or horizontally depending on the area that needs to be treated. In a basic room kit it is designed to be mounted horizontally on the rear wall behind the speakers, to absorb any unwanted reflections immediately in front of the listening position in your studio/programming room.

It is constructed with high density (100Kg per cubic metre) Glass Fibre and layers of Aluminium foil, and finished in a brushed Aluminium frame with fire retardant polyester fabric, and has similarly, and highly effective, full frequency absorption to the ‘Block’.

Test data from the Institute of Acoustics (at Tongji University, China’s leading authority on acoustic studies) shows highly effective (30-44%) removal of all audible frequencies down to 200Hz, and around 20% even down to 125 Hz with standard wall mounting.

The ‘Big Block’ uses Ghost’s proprietary ‘Easy Mount’ system for wall fixing. Each trap ships with a lightweight metal frame which screws into the wall.

The 'Wedge'

The Wedge is designed on the same principle as the other main absorber components of the Ghost range; constructed using high density (100Kg per cubic metre) Glass Fibre and layers of Aluminium foil, and finished in a brushed Aluminium frame with fire retardant polyester fabric.

It’s main purpose is to provide key absorption with some soft diffusion at points around d the room, primarily half way between the speakers/monitors and the listening area on the side walls, helping to reduce primary side wall reflections.

In larger rooms where there is a greater surface area to treat, or for specific applications where more diffusion is required (this becomes more important for example in small rooms with very ‘square’ proportions where randomising the primary sound waves from source is most difficult) it’s possible to use the ‘Wedge’ more widely to achieve better overall dispersion of sound waves which are not absorbed by the traps.

The ‘Wedge’ uses Ghost’s proprietary ‘Easy Mount’ system for wall fixing. Each trap ships with a lightweight metal frame which screws into the wall.

The 'Corner Trap'

The ‘Corner Trap’ is a very heavy duty (and heavy weighing in at 12Kg each!) trap designed primarily to remove accentuated bass frequencies which ‘collect’ in the internal corners of rooms (though it can be mounted on both internal, and external corners).

It offers the same full range frequency response characteristics as the slimmer Ghost traps above 250 Hz, but continues to be highly effective down to very low frequencies, removing around 30% of sound energy even down to 100Hz!!

The ‘Corner Trap’ uses Ghost’s proprietary ‘Easy Mount’ system for wall fixing. Each trap ships with a lightweight metal frame which screws into the wall.

Construction

The starting point for the range is the 'Block' absorber built around an aluminium steel inner frame. The construction is layers of highly compressed glass fibre (100Kg per cubic Metre), with layers of Aluminium foil which help ‘break up’ lower frequency wave forms.

These layers are covered with a fully fire retardant fabric and the whole structure is bound with a brushed Aluminium frame, which both allows diffusion and looks great!

The products are all fully fire retardant, and also unlike the many foam based solutions on the market GHOST absorbers will work much more efficiently to absorb low frequency information as well as HF.

'Easy-Mount' Wall Mounting System

The mounting system is also novel to this type of product, but incredibly simple. Each ‘absorber’ ships with a metal frame which screws onto the wall. This frame has a series of mounting-heads onto which the product can be easily hung. This means that initial installation is very easy… just like putting up a set of shelves, or hanging a picture. It also means that you can move the product to suit your needs… if you need to move rooms, or even house, the product is very easy to move with you… (whereas, gluing foam tiles to your walls means they can only be used once without compromising their efficiency/finish, and walls have to be repaired once tiles are removed).

Each 2’x2’ ‘absorber’ (the building block to the range) has two tubes running through it which allow the product to be mounted quickly and easily on a solid steel base with Steel Rod attachments to form ‘Gobo’s’ for recording guitar cabs, drums or vocals. Each stand can stack up to three 2’x2’ traps, and they are designed so horizontal, angled walls can be built also. So, when tracking, you can remover the panels from your studio walls to use as Gobo’s or to form a full height vocal booth. The same panels can then be re-mounted in seconds for mixing in a properly treated room.
